XGD Valve
Launched at Solids Exhibition
Rota Val, Chippenham based
manufacturer of rotary, diverter and slide valves, is launching
three new products, including a totally new valve range, at the
Easyfairs Solids 2006 Exhibition.
The new XGD
rotary valve is aimed specifically at medium duty applications,
offering significant cost savings compared to heavy duty valves but
retaining many of their features and options, such as outboard
bearings, robust construction, air purged glands and high
temperature specifications.
XGD rotary
valves are suitable for feeding lean phase conveying systems and, in
common with Rota Val’s other valves, ATEX certified versions can be
supplied.
Standard valve
specifications will be available ex stock and whilst the XGD valves
are offered at highly competitive prices, customers still benefit
from the support and unrivalled applications experience for which
Rota Val is well known.
Other features
include composite round / square flanges and the option of chain or
direct drive.
Steve Winton,
Rota Val’s sales
manager commented: “Rota Val has
a depth of technical and applications knowledge and experience that
is second to none. The Company is rightly renowned for technical
excellence and an ability to develop valves specifically to suit a
customer’s application.”
“By launching
the XGD valve range, we can complement this with the volume
production of relatively standard valves. These offer significant
cost savings and excellent delivery times to customers who do not
need heavy duty or special build valves.
“Of course,
those same customers can also buy with the reassurance that the
technical excellence is readily available should they need it, as we
also continue to maintain focus on our special build business. We
really can offer the best of both worlds.”

New Fast-Clean Blowing Seals
Rota Val
‘Fast-Clean’ Blowing Seals (BSFCT) are designed to bring
new standards of safety, ease of use and reliability to applications
with high cleanliness needs.
The range offers users increased
productivity through minimal down-time and greater reliability as a
result of simple, safe disassembly procedures.
The fully ATEX explosion proof
design ensures safe use with hazardous materials.
Bottom-mounted sliding rails permit
accurate alignment of the rotor to housing when being removed or
replaced.
They also allow a rotor support
saddle to be used which eliminates the need for manual lifting or
special equipment under primary cleaning operations, enabling users
to meet safe handling legislation.
Rota Val
‘Fast-Clean’ Blowing Seals are particularly suited to any
application requiring frequent cleaning of internal components,
whether for cleanliness or hygienic purposes.
The new BSFCT valves will be of
particular interest to the Dairy, Food and Pharmaceutical
industries.
True “Blow Through” design
eliminates an entrainment trough for maximum rotor pocket purging
and provides superior handling of sticky or fragile products.
Features
Fully ATEX 94/9/EC certifiable as
Equipment or Autonomous Protective System for Explosion Protection.
Every explosion containment valve
is pressure tested and certified prior to release, this is unique to
Rota Val.
“Investment cast” for superior
finish and quality.
Smooth external profile for ease of
cleaning and wash-down.
Economical to polish due to smooth
profile, giving highly competitive prices.
Minimal internal cast surfaces for
maximum hygiene and ease of polishing.
Bolt-on pipe connections can be
supplied to match conveying line size.
Available with the RotaSafe RM
valve protection system for protection against valve damage and
product contamination.

Valve Protection System Announced
Rota Val’s
new Valve Protection System is designed to detect any contact
between the rotor and valve housing, instantly isolating power to
the drive motor.
The RotaSafe RM Rotor Monitor will
be primarily of interest to customers where product contamination is
a significant issue.
Contact between the rotor and valve
housing can result from excessive load on the rotor causing
deflection, or product build-up (glazing) on contact surfaces..
Ingress of ‘tramp’ material in the
working clearances, bearing failure, excessive temperature,
incorrect assembly and lack of maintenance can also cause rotor
contact with the housing.
RotaSafe RM offers significant
benefits to users. The system prevents valve material shedding into
and therefore contaminating the product being handled and protects
valve components from serious damage.
It also prevents valve start-up if assembled incorrectly.
Prevention of damage to the internals of ATEX Autonomous Protection
valves is vitally important to avoid invalidation of ATEX
certification through an increase in rotor clearances.
The detection circuit is
Intrinsically Safe and ATEX Certified for all Zones. (The Control
Module must be mounted in a Safe Area).
The Control panel is programmed to
eliminate ‘nuisance tripping’ from circuit detection due to partial
conductivity through wash-down fluids or through the product being
handled.
The RotaSafe RM is also suitable
for retrofitting to existing rotary valves.

200mm 'Pipe Selector'
Diverter Valve
Even with 10 different sizes (20 mm to 150 mm) within their existing
highly successful Pipe Selector Diverter valve range; this was
insufficient to meet the needs of a leading French Pharmaceutical
company.
The valve illustrated although similar in design and incorporating
the same basic features as the standard range of Diverter Valves was
specially designed to incorporate a number of additional special
features.

The extremely corrosive Pharmaceutical product being conveyed was
suspended in a toxic gas and therefore it was essential that the
possibility of escape to atmosphere was totally eliminated. A
special reinforced gas tight housing with manifolds for Nitrogen
purge was the solution. Further due to the nature of the product it
was necessary to manufacture from a special stainless steel (254 SMO).
Other features: two sight glasses for inspecting the inside
components and pharmaceutical standard pipe connections.
Full Quality Assurance validation procedures and documentation to
include ATEX Zone 1 & Zone 21 (II 2GD 85°C) were provided.
